Every parent has their own reasons for raising their child in the way that they do. Some people felt their own parents were too strict so they try a more laid-back approach. Some feel their parents weren't involved enough, so they make sure to be on top of everything their own children do. There's no right or wrong way to raise your kids, but once they grow up, you will soon see all the cracks in your methodology. At some point, they stop depending on you and it's their choice whether to spend time with you. You don't need to be best friends or pretend that you are not constantly worried about them, that is nearly impossible, but you need to trust them the tiniest it if you want them to continue to chose to include you in their lives.
